Kingdom Kerry Gaels 1-14, Tir Chonaill Gaels 1-06

By Fiona O’Brien.

County champions Kingdom Kerry Gaels came through a physical encounter to seal a treble over rivals Tir Chonaill Gaels, as they triumphed in the Conway Cup final at Greenford on Saturday.

A small crowd witnessed exciting end-to-end play, albeit in a match littered with fouls and wides, but the Kingdom prevailed and were clinical enough to victor.

It took an hour for them to control the game, and the in-form team looked like they might suffer an upset when behind at the break. The opening saw Niall O’Connell hit the bar for the men in green and gold before the scoring was finally opened on five minutes.

An impressive move saw midfielder Stephen Brown dissect the Tir Chonaill defence, putting Lloyd Colfer through for their first point. It wasn’t long before he doubled his tally from a free, and it looked as if the Kingdom were to command the game, as they did in the league final in Ruislip a fortnight earlier.
