St Nicks 1-05, St Colmcilles 1-03
By Brian Laverty.
St Nicks of Bristol are once again champions of Gloucestershire, after they beat Cardiff’s St Colmcilles.
Expected to be a tight battle, Sunday’s final didn’t fail on that count with neither side really exerting dominance on the scoresheet. The conditions didn’t help matters which made the game a scrappy affair at times, but a fairly contested nonetheless.
St Nicks struck first early with points from Noel Roche and Ciaran Barrat, but Cardiff replied with points coming from a Sean Roddy free and Shane Hyland. The game struggled to get going and was a real battle of attrition with both teams making mistakes.
St Nicks made more opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalise but it was Sean Roddy of Cardiff who grabbed the first goal of the game. From a long ball played in he showed good strength and pace to win the possession and turn towards goal before dispatching it to the St Nicks net. It came just before half-time to leave the score Cardiff 1-3 to St Nicks 0-3 at the break.
