Brendan O’Carroll has revealed some of the well-known faces who will be appearing in the film Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie, the big-screen version of his BAFTA-winning comedy show, as well as “a few surprises”.

Filming has begun in Dublin’s Moore Street, and the plot centres on Agnes Brown trying to keep hold of her market stall, which greedy developers are trying to close down.

One role has gone to RTE presenter Joe Duffy, who in the third series of the TV show played a psychic and Agnes’ Brown’s late husband – but this time he’ll be playing something else, and not “as a psychic.”

Robert Bathurst, who plays Sir Anthony Stralin in Donwton Abbey, will also be making an appearance and author/actress Amy Hubermann will be making a cameo, as will comedian and actress June Rogers.

Ex-rugby player Shane Byrne took on his first acting role six years after his retirement from the game playing a Russian gangster, alongside Brian Whitehead, CEO of the Olympia Theatre who also played a gang member.

Irish World award winner O’Carroll said he was delighted to be filming back on Moore Street, as it’s the place that inspired the Mrs Brown book trilogy: “It’s wonderful to be back, the smell of the fruit. I walked along and saw some salmon on sale… flies all over them, I remember those flies!”
