Rival reality show judge Gary Barlow has saved the day and will headline tonight’s Blackpool Illuminations concert after Danny O’Donoghue and his band The Script pulled out.

Take That’s chief songwriter told fans on Twitter he would help out if organisers “write a cheque to Children in Need.” and tweeted last night: Right. We’re all signed-up to play 2moro, Blackpool here we come!

The Irish rockers were meant to be headlining the concert, which also features performances from Eliza Doolittle and Madness, but pulled out due to “a family matter.”

A statement from The Script’s management confirmed that the group had also cancelled their Thursday night gig at Leeds Academy (29 August), part of their The #3 World Tour which was coming to an end.

Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool said: “We are deeply saddened that The Script have been forced to cancel but we totally understand and appreciate that personal family matters take priority, and our thoughts are with the band and their families at this time.”

Barlow’s good pal, TV presenter Jonathan Ross will turn on the famous lights following the gig.

Barlow is back on our screens as a judge on the latest season of The X-Factor, which kicked off on Saturday. Script frontman O’Donoghue, on the other hand, quit his coaching job on BBC1’s talent show The Voice and will not be back for a third series, even though he guided fellow Irish singer Andrea Begley to success last month.
