Hectic Eclectics, a new solo exhibition by Irish artist Damien McGinley, which runs from August 8-13 at 5th Base Gallery, near Brick Lane in London. For a number of years McGinley has been examining how the linear structure of landscape painting can respond to both external and internal landscapes. In his most recent work, he moves away from this focus on deliberately rigid structures within his work and has begun to develop an approach that tries to dissolve these boundaries and pursues a perspective of the eye on its surrounding environment. His solo exhibitions include‘Intro’ (Brussels, Belgium 1999), ‘9th and Hennepin’ (Novi Sad, Serbia 2003), ‘Shadow Boxer’ (Berlin, Germany 2008), ‘Stories From The City/Sea’ (Dublin, Ireland 2012), and ‘Eurekastraat’ (Antwerp, Belgium 2012). McGinley has works in permanent collections worldwide, including the Irish Embassy in Athens, Greece and the Siena Art Institute, Italy. See www.damienmcginley.com and www.5thbase.co.uk for more.
