RACING — 20 March 2013
By Damian Dolan
Move aside AP McCoy, Ruby Walsh and Barry Geraghty, the real Irish star of the saddle at this year’s Cheltenham Festival was a 45-year-old London based Kildare man making a comeback to racing after a 25-year absence.
A former amateur jockey, Brian Bunyan rode Age of Glory to victory in the St Patrick’s Derby, in aid of Cancer Research UK, over one mile and five furlongs on Thursday (March 14).
Bunyan pushed the four-year-old, which he owns and is trained by his brother Darren at the Curragh, to the front with a furlong to travel and soon had the measure of the opposition to claim the win amidst the descending Cheltenham gloom.
