THE VALIANT ONES
Carlow 0-13 London 1-09
By Larry Cooney at Dr. Cullen Park
London’s footballers are still chasing their first league points after an heroic display in Dr. Cullen Park last Saturday afternoon which saw them miss out by the narrowest of margins.
After their display against Tipperary in the opening round, much was expected of Carlow but London held a lead over their hosts until an equalizing point from Eoghan Ruth in the 67th minute.
But although the Exiles deserved a share of the spoils they were denied by a late winning point for the hosts from Alan Kelly in the first of the three minutes of added time.
As in their opening round game against Offaly it was the Exiles who set the early pace defending the pavilion end. Midfielders Caolan Doyle and Jared Monaghan were far from overawed by the presence of the late inclusion of Carlow talisman Brendan Murphy.
