Maeve O'Rourke
Human rights lawyer and student barrister Maeve O'Rourke was this week presented with the Ireland Fund of Great Britain's Forgotten Irish Award for her pro bono work in compiling some 5,000 pages of testimony from survivors of the Magdalene Laundries as appropriate legal submissions.
They have been submitted for inclusion in Senator Martin McAleese's report on the Magdalene Laundries – due to go to Ireland's Justice Minister Alan Shatter any day – with a view to ensuring the women get suitable compensation and the support they need.
