Garryowen's Declan Gilmartin
The Garryowen GAA club is hosting a fundraising event for the family of the late Declan Gilmartin to help them off set the huge cost of getting their son’s body home.
It will take place at the Cricklewood Tavern on Saturday night (November 24).
The County Leitrim native died tragically at his North London home earlier this month. The 22 year-old was returned to his native Ballinaglera in the north of the county ten days ago but his family is facing huge bills to cover the costs of the flights and undertaker fees.
As a result, the club with whom Gilmartin steered to a county junior championship final victory in 2010 have organised an evening of music and raffles at the well-known Cricklewood Tavern on Cricklewood lane.
Club official Sean Igoe said: “There are a lot of good people in London but going by the support we have got so far I have never seen anything like this. Cuchullian’s , the club we beat in that county final two years ago have asked for a load of tickets to be sent to south London so they can support it too.
Popular Irish folk band Saoirse will provide the entertainment on the night.
