THE family of the late Dessie Quinn – at the centre of an Irish Ebola alert – has been told he did not have the Ebola virus

They were told just after noon today that hab tests had proven negative. The family had said previously that they didn’t think the 44 year old, who was found dead at his Donegal home yesterday, had had the disease.

“The HSE has confirmed that laboratory test samples for an individual, who had recently returned from Africa, has proved negative for Ebola Virus,” the HSE said in a statement.

“Infection control procedures, which had been put in place as a precautionary measure, will now be stepped down. The HSE expressed its condolences to the individual’s family and friends for their loss.”

Mr Quinn had been in Sierra Leone, where he was treated for malaria. He worked in the African country for a Clondalkin-based cable-laying firm.
