THE London Irish Centre turns 60 this year, and as part of its extensive 60th anniversary celebrations it wants to collate photos from the Irish community in London.

One of the standout features of its 60th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, September 13 will be a selection of photos and archive footage of people enjoying the Camden centre throughout the past six decades.

Artistic Director Gary Dunne said: “We would love if you could get involved in helping us to put this together. So, if you have any photos or mementos of the Centre hiding in your photo albums or in a shoebox under the bed, dig them out and contact the Centre to submit them for display!”

The celebration will mark the past 60 years, since it was founded in 1954 to support the needs of newly arrived Irish emigrants to the capital and looking to the Centre’s future within London’s vibrant Irish community.

Beginning with an afternoon tea dance and social at 2pm, and leading into a drinks reception from 6pm, the Celebration will be an evening of reflection and connections, followed by live music and dancing til late.  The event will be attended by H.E. Ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain Dan Mulhall.

The event is free, but places must be registered in advance. To do so, email conordarrall@londonirishcentre.org or call 020 7428 2093 before September 8.

Organisers are suggesting a charitable donation of £19.54 for the evening event, which can be paid online after registration or on the night, a donation which will subsidise the costs of an afternoon tea dance and party earlier on the day aimed at older clients, many of whom have been connected to the Centre for decades.
