Bros Pearses 0-11
Sean Treacy’s 2-10

Sean Moriarty

There  was a major upset at Ruislip on Sunday evening when the much more fancied Brothers Pearse were knocked out of the Ardent Tide London senior hurling championship by a far more hungrier Sean Treacy’s.

A double goal burst midway through the second gave the South Londoners the deserved victory in as hard –fought contest that often threatened to get ugly.

Indeed the game was barely ten seconds old when both The Brother Pearses’ Kevin Reid and Sean Treacys’ Darren Moore were shown straight red cards for an off-ball incident just after the throw in. With both sides reduced to 14 men, game plans were chucked out the window.

Both sides stepped up to the mark and an enthralling, and often ill-tempered affair followed.

Pearses opening score, courtesy of a Paddy Kelly free was negated seconds later by a fine Ger Qulligan effort form play second later.

Last year’s runners settled down after this and a trio of un-answered scores, from Cathal Greay from well inside his own half, another Kelly free and another Quilligan outfield effort gave them  the lead. But the men in red and white responded with scores from Pa Dineen and John Cusack kept them honest.  Mike Noonan delivered another one of his famous long ball shots two put the Pearses ahead again but Dineen’s goal from a free  seconds later  gave Treacy’s  the lead for the first  time.

A few moments later Danny Connolly had a clear shot at goal but elected to put the sliothar over the bar to level the contest again.  The Pearses were still guilty of putting too many balls wide. Scores they would have easily converted n other games but both Chris Lordan and Dean Breun were accurate to put two between the teams again.

However Cussack goal for the Treacy’s tied the game for the third time and a late point by Quilligan gave them the lead going into the break.
