Molly Malone, Dublin’s most famous trader, was today unveiled at her new temporary home by Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sport Paschal Donohoe.

The statue had been moved from her Grafton Street location in April in line with construction works that are linking the two Luas lines together.

She is now based on Suffolk Street temporarily and will be moved to a slightly more northern Grafton Street location once works are finished.

The reconstruction of the 25-year-old statue over the past few months included work to her fingers, and the joins that welded over 30 pieces of bronze.

Heritage manager Donncha Ó Dúlaing had said: “Her condition was quite poor. Unlike other statues in the city she is at person height and so get s a huge amount of attention, which leads to ongoing wear and tear.”

Today Maya O’Mahony, 5, from Inchicore was on hand to help unveil the Molly Malone Statue and pose in the photos.
