Liverpool Hope 1-9, Liverpool John Moores  1-7 By Martin Mannering.

The Liverpool domination of the Men’s British Universities GAA championship continued on Saturday as local rivals Hope University and John Moores University faced off in the final at Greenbank Park.

Despite the horrendous conditions it was a thrilling encounter that hung in the balance right up to the final whistle. GAA Presidential candidate Aogan O Fearghail took time out from his visit to Manchester to attend and was on hand to present Hope captain Rory Sharvin with the trophy.

Choosing to play with the strong wind at their backs it was favourites John Moores who went straight on the attack and opened the scoring on their first attempt. Colin Campbell took possession from the throw in and offloaded to centre back Conor Donnelly who soloed through and fired over from 40 metres.

The lads in maroon remained unfazed and dug themselves in for a battle, harrying and covering in numbers to close off all avenues. Moving the ball with short quick passes to counter the elements they broke up field for Conal McGlade to level matters four minutes in with a fine score from out on the left.
