Cuchulainns 3-15, St Anthony’s 1-05

By Damian Dolan.

Last year’s junior champions St Anthony’s were given a chastening introduction to life at intermediate level, although all eyes were on former Down senior footballer Marcus Miskelly.

The Darragh Cross clubman has been training with the London panel and did enough at corner forward to suggest he could be a useful addition, slotting over a couple of nice scores.

But it wasn’t all about Miskelly, with Peter Phelan (Abbeyside Ballinacourty, Waterford) and Peter Murphy and (Carey Faughs, Antrim) both getting game time to qualify them for London’s hurlers.

Watched by London trainer Kevin Downes, Miskelly set up Brian McVeigh to claim the first of Cuchulainn’s three goals in the second minute. After losing out to Heston Gaels in last year’s intermediate final, Cuchulainn’s will be hoping that Miskelly could be the final ingredient as they look to go one step further this year. Time will tell.
