London’s hurlers may still be without a manager, but the county team’s management set up is beginning to take shape with St Gabriel’s and former London hurler Matthew Fitzsimon confirmed as a selector.
In addition, the team will be trained by Shane O’Brien, who trained St Gabriel’s last year, with Shay Glasel, who was with Kingdom Kerry Gaels in 2013, named as strength and conditioning coach.
Fitzsimon was approached by former county board chairman Tommy Harrell about coming on board as a selector, and the Tubber, Co Clare, native, who arrived in London in 2009, agreed.
“It’s a great opportunity to be involved with a team that’s playing in the Leinster Senior Championship and when Tommy asked me I was more than happy to do it,” said Fitzsimon.
“The work that Eamonn [Phelan] and his team did was exceptional, to get promoted, win the Nicky Rackard and Christy Ring back-to-back and the way they acquitted themselves in the Leinster Championship last year.
