Some Christmas ferry crossings cancelled as Met Offices issue severe weather Orange Alert

Met Eireann has issued its second most severe weather alert, an orange warning, ahead of the Christmas as strong gale force winds hit all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea.

Southwest winds are expected to gust to between 100 km/h and 130 km/h.

People travelling to Ireland for Christmas by sea face some disruptions due to dangerous conditions on the Irish Sea with Irish Ferries cancelling all Jonathan Swift Fast Ferry Sailings between Dublin and Holyhead with customers being transferred to the operator’s much larger cruise vessels.

Met Éireann is forecasting that the situation will deteriorate further.

Stena Lines’ HSS sailings from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead  are cancelled today December 23 while Stena’s Rosslare to Fishguard Stena Europe Christmas Eve sailings are.
