Na Gaeil (Kerry) 2-26, Dunedin Connolly’s (Scotland) 1-05

By Larry Cooney.

Dunedin Connolly’s were outclassed by Kerry champions Na Gaeil in a one-sided All-Ireland Ladies Junior Club final in Crettyard, Co. Laois last Saturday afternoon.

But although the Edinburgh girls did not enjoy a fairytale ending to their amazing adventure in their debut season in provincial competition, they never gave up against a team who were quite simply a ‘junior’ team in name only.

Played in the presence of the LGFA President, who made the post-match presentation, even Pat Quile had to admit that the Tralee girls, who were powered by All-Star Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh, would have been a match for both of last Sunday’s senior club finalists in Carrick-on-Shannon.

But despite being downcast at the final whistle, the girls of Dunedin Connolly’s did GAA in Britain proud and can still feel very satisfied with their achievement this year which also included winning the Paidi O’Se tournament in their first major competition.
