Cu Chulainns 1-09, St Benedict’s Harps 0-08

By Lee Gormley.

Newcastle side Cu Chulainns retained the Yorkshire Senior Championship title after a 1-9 to 0-8 triumph over St Benedict’s Harps from Leeds.

This latest victory is Cu Chulainns’ sixth Senior Championship crown in a row and another win over their fierce rivals, St Benedict’s Harps, who they also defeated in last year’s final.

There was a last minute change of venue for the match with the final being contested at Scotthall Road in Leeds rather than Beeston. The changes didn’t affect the players from either side as they played out an outstanding game in the tough weather conditions.

It was a cagey start to the final with both teams pressurising in midfield and looking to dominate quickly. The heavy rain had a big impact on the early stages of the match with both teams struggling to completely get control of the ball.
