Tir Chonaill Gaels 1-07, St Anthony’s 2-04

By Damian Dolan.

A thrilling finale to Sunday’s Junior Championship final saw Michael McGrath conjure an injury-time goal to stun Tir Chonaill Gaels and earn St Anthony’s a second bite at the cherry.

It completed an extraordinary turnaround for the Anthony’s centre forward, who had been called ashore early in the second half only to be thrown back into the fray with just four minutes remaining.

It proved an inspired decision from the Reading club’s management as his late run, with the Gaels protecting a three-point lead, earning a free. McGrath picked himself up to drill a powerful shot goalwards, which pin-balled around a packed Tir Chonaill goalmouth before somehow crossing the goal-line.
