Clare 0-25, Cork 3-16

By Larry Cooney.

The second All-Munster All-Ireland senior hurling ended in stalemate after a thrilling encounter in Croke Park last Sunday.

Clare corner back Domhnall O’Donovan saved the day the Banner County who had fallen behind for the first time in the 71st minute after an action-packed and dramatic game that proved to be a fitting finale to an unforgettable hurling championship before a capacity attendance in fine conditions.

But even the most partisan Cork supporter will admit that Clare deservedly earned another opportunity to contest the Liam MacCarthy Cup in what will be an eagerly awaited replay on September 28.

In fact, when one looks at the match statistics the real question is why are Clare not celebrating another famous All-Ireland victory. And the main reason is that Cork were allowed hit three timely goals when defeat was staring them in the face.
