This year’s Sligo Live music festival (October 23rd – 28) is attracting the cream of Irish traditional musicians from across the globe to celebrate the Gathering.

The festival is bringing together Irish and US musicians to show the influences  in both directions on folk, roots and indie music,  celebrating The Gathering by inviting music lovers to experience how our music has crossed and re-crossed the Atlantic and returned changed and enriched.

This year boasts an exciting programme of traditional music. Coleman’s Call is a concert inspired by the Sligo Fiddle Masters’ (Coleman, Morrison and Killoran), who made the first popular recordings of Irish Traditional music in New York during the early twentieth century.

It will feature renowned U.S. Fiddlers, Liz Carroll from Chicago, NYC’s Tony DeMarco, Jessie Smith from Baltimore and flute player, Sean Gavin from Detroit with a host of outstanding Sligo Musicians including top band Teada, the legendary Seamus Tansey, Seamie O’Dowd, Seamus and Manus McGuire with Garry O’Briain, Philip Duffy, Declan Folan, Junior Davey, Mossie Martin, and Declan Courell, all treating crowds to their individual interpretations of iconic tunes which continue as the backbone of Irish traditional music.

Planxty Legends Liam Og O Flynn, Andy Irvine, Paddy Glackin and Donal Lunny, aka LAPD and Dervish also perform at this year’s festival.  It will once again feature the always dynamic Sligo Sessions and the overseas expansion of the Fiddler of Dooney Competition.

All this and an intimate concert by Tony De Marco and Seamie O’Dowd, Leonard Barry’s and Shane McAleer’s album launches, nightly festival club sessions together with club main and acoustic stages makes for a festival like on other in Ireland. Over 80 performances in six days with music under almost every roof in  Sligo.
