County champions St Gabriels, Kilburn Gaels and Robert Emmett will spearhead London’s assault on the inaugural Aer Lingus International Hurling Festival.

They’ll join a Rest of Britain side and teams five continents to descend upon four locations across Galway on 18-21 September. Forming part of the ‘The Gathering’ and staged in partnership with Etihad Airways, the first-ever global hurling tournament is intended to be a celebration of Irish culture.

Galway Senior Hurling manager Anthony Cunningham and former Galway All Ireland winning captain Joe Connolly joined Michael Greally, Chief Human Resources Officer Aer Lingus, Declan Kearney, Aer Lingus Director of Communications, Mattie Kenny, Aer Lingus Senior Project Manager, for the launch at the Crown Moran Hotel, Cricklewood, for the British launch.

Aside from an adult hurling tournament there will also be a juvenile tournament, coaching seminars, arts and crafts, a food fair, traditional music and dance, across Galway City and the four host towns.

“It will be a fantastic event, but it’s your event,” said Greally. “We look forward to welcoming you to Galway in September.
