St Josephs        2-14

Garryowen       1-07

By Damian Dolan

St Josephs produced a strong second half display at Greenford on Sunday to overcome a spirited Garryowen side.

A miss-firing Joes led by just a point at the break but they turned on the afterburners in the second half and two goals in less than 60 seconds mid-way through the half from Michael Colleran and Paddy Gervin proved decisive.

Gavin McGuire’s goal nine minutes from time ensured Joes couldn’t completely take their foot off the gas, but they responded with five consecutive points to close the game out.

Joes showed off new signing Tom Gormley, who won an intermediate title with Moindearg, and with the likes of Colleran, Gervin and Mark McNulty one would expect them to have a say in the destination of this year’s championship.

They didn’t have it all their own way at Greenford in the first half, however, as Justin Quinn and Tony Mulvey more than held their own in the middle of the park against Mick Duffy and Gormley.
