A London-based Donegal man has become the latest YouTube sensation after his friends played a prank on him and posted his reaction on the video sharing website and is raising money for a Dublin-based children’s charity as a result.
Adrian Byrne runs the bar and clubhouse for Tir Chonaill Gaels GAA club Greenford, north London.
He a group of friends, three from London and five from Ireland were in France on a skiing trip.
While they were making their way from the Alps to Lyon airport Adrian fell asleep on the bus. His friend pretended the bus was crashing and he woke in a panic.
His reaction, which included a few expletives, was captured on a mobile and posted on the video sharing site.
Less than a week after it was posted the film has attracted 240,000 hits but the good news is each hit is worth 1p to Temple Street Children’s hospital in Dublin because viewers much first watch an advert before viewing the clip. A percentage of the advert revenue is returned to the owner of the YouTube account which belongs to one of Adrian’sa travelling companions.
Adrian said: “It is all a bit of craic. One of the lads from Cork does a lot of work for charity and Temple Street is his nominated charity. It was funny because we were looking at something similar on the way down and I never thought I would get caught.”
