Human rights lawyer and student barrister Maeve O'Rourke was this week presented with the Ireland Fund of Great Britain's Forgotten Irish Award for her pro bono work in compiling some 5,000 pages of testimony from survivors of the Magdalene Laundries as appropriate legal submissions.

They have been submitted for inclusion in Senator Martin McAleese's report on the Magdalene Laundries – due to go to Ireland's Justice Minister Alan Shatter any day – with a view to ensuring the women get suitable compensation and the support they need.

IN THIS WEEK'S PRINT EDITION OF THE IRISH WORLD ON PAGE 3 "FORGOTTEN IRISH" AWARD FOR MAEVE THE PHOTOGRAPH USED IS NOT THAT OF MAEVE O'ROURKE, FOR WHICH WE APOLOGISE. A MISTAKE WAS MADE WITH THE FILE PHOTOGRAPHS.
