Despite being down to 12 players, Sean McDermott’s held out until extra-time to beat St Barnabas in the Senior Football League final.

Just a week after their Provincial Championship success, Sean McDermott’s showed true heart and grit in their title winning victory over their arch rivals from Nottingham. This triumph ensures McDermott’s the double and emphasizes what a tough outfit they are to beat.

A lot of history has surrounded this fixture with tainted postponements and marred matches being the main cause for concern.

The first sign of things spilling over came from Sean McDermott’s full back Tom Smith, who, in a moment of madness, struck Barnabas forward James Keogh. This action led to Smith being given a straight red card and Keogh being taken off injured.
