2000 Guineas gets the pulses racing

By John Doyle.

This year’s 2000 Guineas is one of the most anticipated for years. The race looks to be dominated by two of the biggest hyped up horses in Kingman and Australia, despite the field containing horses with proven Group 1 form in Toormore and War Command that seem to be largely ignored by the public.

Starting with Australia, the vibes about the quality of this horse were in evidence early last year as the Aidan O’Brien team waxed lyrical about his prowess in season previews. He made his debut in June at the Curragh, starting slowly and suffering a poor passage to finish runner up.

Three weeks later, he won his Maiden but not so impressively before an eye-catching performance to beat Free Eagle at Leopardstown in a Group 3 race. He was subsequently put away and will make his seasonal debut at Newmarket.
